  • I made financial commitments after my loved one's funeral and now I'm having second thoughts. I don't want to disappoint anyone. How can I get out of this?

Most grief counselors recommend avoiding any large decisions, such as moving, buying or selling a house, for one year after the loss of a loved one if possible.  It takes time to adjust to the loss of a loved one and create a “new normal.”  If you’ve made a formal financial commitment,   check your contract for the terms; some contracts have a “buyer’s remorse” period, which can let you out of the contract.  If you have made an informal agreement with family or friends, honesty is the best policy.  Have an open and honest conversation; grief can often make us do things that we wouldn’t ordinarily do.
