Because of the wide assortment of emotions that can accompany grief, we sometimes act differently than we normally would without even realizing it.  The best thing to do is have an open and honest conversation with the individual(s) affected by your mistakes.  While each person experiences and expresses their grief differently, grief itself is a common and normal experience. People are more likely to understand that your actions were based on your grief if you are open and honest with them.
