COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (October 10, 2017) – Trustbridge, the local nonprofit hospice committed to providing compassionate care to patients and families who are facing serious illness, is pleased to announce that in partnership with the Tomorrow’s Rainbow organization, Trustbridge is offering an all-day camp to grieving children ages 5-11 who have lost a loved one.

The Sea Star Program’s Club Seahorse will take place on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Tomorrow’s Rainbow in Coconut Creek, Fla. The purpose of Club Seahorse is to bring together children who have lost a loved one for support and friendship. This innovative grief support collaboration includes interactions with miniature horses and other small farm animals, peer support groups, and therapeutic art and play.

“Throughout the day, children at Club Seahorse will have an opportunity to identify ways to cope with change, improve self-esteem, learn to recognize and validate feelings, and identify safe ways to express their grief,” said Christina Herwig, Trustbridge Bereavement Children’s Program Coordinator. “In addition, campers will recognize that having fun, enjoying themselves and celebrating is still a part of life.”

"We're so grateful for the opportunity to partner with Trustbridge. After the death of a loved one, it's such a challenge for some families to fit bereavement support into their already hectic schedules,” said Abby Mosher, Founder and Executive Director of Tomorrow's Rainbow. “Club Seahorse is on a teacher's workday, so it actually supports grieving families in two ways; first, by providing a wonderful blend of activities to encourage hope and healing, and second, by offering a place for children to go on a day off of school.”

As part of its community-wide grief support program, all bereavement workshops and family activities are open to everyone in the community who has lost a loved one. The Sea Star Program’s Club Seahorse is free for all elementary aged children (kindergarten - 5th grade) and Trustbridge is currently accepting applications. To obtain an application, visit www.trustbridge.com or www.tomorrowsrainbow.org, or call (888) 499-8393.
