The 17th annual Horizons Fishing Tournament recently took place at Riviera Beach Marina, which attracted anglers from around South Florida.

Benefiting the Hospice of Palm Beach County and Hospice by the Sea Foundations, the tournament offered over $25,000 in cash and prizes, including a $5,000 grand prize for the heaviest kingfish, dolphin or wahoo.

Winning the grand prize after reeling in a Wahoo that weighed 56.3 pounds was Kevin Wheat, who was aboard the boat “Miss Bella.”

Other first-place class winners included Kylie Webber (Kingfish, 40.6 pounds); Cynthia Gialiardo (Dolphin, 8.6 pounds); Raymond Hans (Wahoo, 46.4 pounds); Patrick Marasco (Snapper/Grouper, 13.6 pounds); Logan Clevenger (Junior Division, Kingfish, 25.6 pounds); Belinda Machiela (Ladies Division, Kingfish, 20.7 pounds); and Ryan McGinnis (The Winners Circle and The Big Kahuna, Wahoo, 39.8 pounds).

Additionally, the boat “Sword A Broke” walked away with three awards – Richard Black Memorial Award, 3 Fish Aggregate Award and the Fishing For My Loved One Award. The latter was in memory of Carol Gache.

The Most Donated Fish Award went to Goin Raptor after collecting fish that weighed in at a total of 92.9 pounds.

“Yet again, we were thrilled to see the number of dedicated participants in this great event,” said Greg Leach, Foundation President. “The funds raised will go a long way in assisting our Sea Star Program and children’s bereavement services. We thank everyone for supporting the tournament.”

During the tournament, there was a fishing clinic for children participating in the Foundation’s bereavement program to learn to become anglers. The day of sun and fun ended with the official weigh-in, followed by an awards ceremony with food, drink, raffles and entertainment.
